COP 2 / "The Designer That I Am" / Brief & First Thoughts

Following on from last years enjoyable Context of Practice project, for COP2 we have to choose one of the following graphic disciplines as the focus of our Context of Practice 2 project:

• Editorial design
• Typography
• New Media
• Advertising
• Print-making
• Branding

So... I'm interested in all of these disciplines.

In particular, I find myself increasingly interested in 'trends' within Graphic Design. Of course, trends exist in every discipline, but the nature of Graphic Design as a purely visual field means that trends can appear, flourish and then stagnate within a very short period of time. 

All of the disciplines above overlap and inform each other in some shape or form & I need to consider both the 3000 word essay and the conjoining practical piece. I've always enjoyed quality editorial design both for it's aesthetic and how form follows content. A piece of editorial design would be informed and house the essay.

Print-making has always interested me, to the point of me focusing my COP1 around a series of screen prints.

I need to think of interesting subject matter for each sector and then look into how I could extend that into a practical project.
