Richard's talk today was very enlightening on the important subject of choosing a topic to explore for COP3. About half way through the talk, I was still none the wiser as to what I should explore. It was when Richard mentioned putting practice first and the writing/dissertation second - following the physical work - that ideas started coming to me.
My first concept came when thinking out my COP1 piece exploring graphic design as a less romantic medium than fine art, with much less of an aura. I think a portrait or self portrait series could be really interesting, particularly if I set boundaries such as the fact that there could be no direct human representation in the pieces. From there you start to look at how line and colour represent a human state of emotion and get into some really interesting stuff.
I could potentially make a piece a day to reflect a mood. I'm all for championing graphic design as a medium as important and auratic as fine art and this could be a fantastic way of portraying this.
