An exploration into the past, present and future of hand-produced work within Graphic Design.
Through talking more about my subject choice, we decided an edited down version would actually condense the subject area down for me (which is something I definitely need).
So for now, the title stands as:
An Exploration into the Handmade Within Graphic Design
I've got to the point in my research where I needed someone to push me in the right direction, instead of taking random tangents.
A few key points from the meeting:
- Digital vs Print is not a competition
- Letterpress & S/p were once commercial, now highbrow entities.
- Focus on the physicality of the production. The body and manipulation of materials.
- Subjective, transcendental experience from printmaking.
- Marx, value.
A few key texts to consider:
- 'The Craftsman' - Richard Sennett
- 'A Theory of Craft' - Howard Risatti
For next tutorial, a plan of the essay.
