After receiving really positive feedback in the crit, I've gone on to produce some more pieces in the same vein, sticking with silver ink onto black stock.
I began the series by labelling each as Machine_Drawn-Articles_[Number] and so kept this up throughout all of the silver prints to eventually create 001 - 006. I will touch on cohesion of the project in another post.
I went back and re did two of the designs that I'd previously done in a different ink or stock.
Seeing the results of these re-do's reinforces the fact that the silver onto black is the appropriate medium for the project. The results are beautiful and arguable not as standardly visible and legible as an artwork should be.
I began thinking about how an exhibition would be presented and decided that some sort of identity could make use of the imagery from across the series.
This pattern is my favourite from the collection so I layered the title of the project over it multiple times - for aesthetic reasons more than anything else - and included my name. The gold over silver looks incredible, luscious and makes the print feel even more like an expensive, limited object.
The typeface - Thingbats Mono - was chosen for its' futuristic, computerised aesthetic, bringing to mind code and algorithm (particularly when repeated to such an extent.) I also found that it prints clearly when used in this process ( the machine draws around the outline, creating a nice inner space void of ink.
From here I need to plan the 'exhibition', is a real exhibition possible? If so I think i'm on the right track with the aesthetic of the branding - though i'm not convinced it needs much branding as such. This one poster would serve as a sort of into to a room full of the prints (would I then need a rationale? probably...)
