Brief 2 / Communication is a Virus / Critique: 'Let's Go!' - Spoof Shell Advert

These spoof adverts attacking Shell's 'Let's Go' slogan which went with their proposals for arctic drilling for oil are playful, cutting and visually arresting to such a degree they went viral.

The tone of voice is key in the spoof ads. Sarcastic and caustic, they point out Shell's wrong  doing without  s p e l l i n g  i t  o u t.

The inclusion of animals was what triggered my memory in relation to this brief. The polar bear is used as the go to animal in relation to global warming and the arctic.

The humour plays so successfully on human greed and arrogance over other species.

With a potentially dry subject such as this, it is the humour which carries it through, makes it digestible and not preachy.
