Studio Brief 2 / Theory Into Practice / Presentation & Feedback

I was happy with the presentation I put together, I believe it states the intent of my aims clearly, while providing enough tangents for people to grab onto.

Luckily the group received the idea and concept well and fed back some great ideas.

These two slides - my quick illustrator block vector put against Mark Rothko's 'Yellow, Pink, Lavender on Rose' - went down really well and opened up some new ideas which hadn't entered my mind before.

I think they go a long way to illustrate the vast and bewildering gap in value between a piece of graphic design and fine art. The colours are the same, so in theory shouldn't the emotions and feeling that Rothko is hoping to convey in his painting, still be evident in a large scale print of my version?

The eventual idea we came to as a group was a series of large scale prints, possibly exhibited in an exhibition of some sort. The pieces will act as an exploration into what exactly is the perceived difference in value between a fine art piece, in this case Rothko, and a piece of graphic design.

In order to emulate the 'handmade' feel that I believe is one of the keys in the differing values between graphic design and fine art, I will use traditional, non-digital methods of production - almost certainly screenprinting the posters.
