Studio Brief 2 / Theory Into Practice / Exhibition Booklet Research

Although it wasn't an art show per se, I saw the band These New Puritans at The Barbican arts centre the other week (incredible) and I kept this programme, as a memento but also as research for a proposed exhibition booklet.

The cover is to the point, uncluttered and simply gets across the key information, if that, as you're already at the venue and therefore know where the event is taking place and when. Anything I produce, particularly advertisement posters should have the dates and location on.

The booklet uses a medium weight stock, probably about 120gsm to give it some strength - simply adding a slightly premium feel.

The inner features a short thesis from the singer Jack Barnett, putting the one off performance into context. There is also some intriguing imagery and a list of all musicians and participants.

The back features advertisements for events later in the year at the venue. I would have preferred a more cohesive, one off publication for the event, I feel that the additional advertisement of separate shows takes away from the special, one off nature of the performance.

I'd like to avoid any kind of faux advertisement for other shows at the gallery I choose, Instead making the publication feel like more of a special edition and straight from the artists intentions as apposed to watered down by the chosen venue.
